Bible Possibly Written Centuries Earlier, Discovery Suggests

100115-hebrew-02.jpg

"Scientists have discovered the earliest known Hebrew writing — an inscription dating from the 10th century B.C., during the period of King David's reign.

The breakthrough could mean that portions of the Bible were written centuries earlier than previously thought. (The Bible's Old Testament is thought to have been first written down in an ancient form of Hebrew.)

Until now, many scholars have held that the Hebrew Bible originated in the 6th century B.C., because Hebrew writing was thought to stretch back no further. But the newly deciphered Hebrew text is about four centuries older, scientists announced this month.

"It indicates that the Kingdom of Israel already existed in the 10th century BCE and that at least some of the biblical texts were written hundreds of years before the dates presented in current research," said Gershon Galil, a professor of Biblical Studies at the University of Haifa in Israel, who deciphered the ancient text."

One thing is clear, no one knows. They think they can make sense of things they have no idea, then slap a "Made By God" sticker on it, make a few predictions and never have to deliver on any of them.

Then, to be proven wrong over and over again by science: when religion is caught in lies they try to change the rules.

FT.com - Obama Is Right To Tax Wall Street

"The American public dreams of putting bankers on trial. The hearings of the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, which started this week, are a spectacle that comes close to that fantasy. With camera flashes firing, the bankers’ journeys to take the stand have had the drama of the “perp walk”. The quasi-defendants were quizzed, among other things, on the White House’s new plan, revealed this week, for a $90bn tax on banks.

The proposal is political. That much is clear from the timing. The administration announced it ahead of bank bonus season. With US unemployment continuing to rise, the spectacle of Wall Street plutocrats reporting multi-million dollar earnings from bailed-out companies will trigger geysers of rage. This policy should soothe and exploit that popular anger.

But this is not mindless populism. Crisis interventions made US bank creditors and shareholders hundreds of billions of dollars richer. But, for its part, the commonweal is expected to lose $47bn on its initial $125bn equity injection into the banks alone. The American state has a right to correct that imbalance."

Earning wealth is one thing. But to be bailed out by public funds demands special treatment. You can't set up your own demise, then make billions off it.

Liz Cheney And The Problem Of Nepotism

Nepotism as a proxy for sycophancy.
"The problem with Ms Cheney is not inexperience, but family connections. Her appointment to powerful State Department positions, like her husband Philip Perry’s appointment as general counsel of the Department of Homeland Security, was part of a self-reinforcing habit of nepotism and insularity that plagued George W Bush's administration. Mr Cheney famously appointed supremely loyal associates throughout the government, allowing him to exercise influence through vertical channels in the State Department, Defence Department, Department of Justice and elsewhere, and ensuring him a degree of power never before seen in a vice president. But his reliance on such loyal associates ultimately trapped him inside an echo chamber of bad advice on issues such as torture and military intervention abroad. The reason why you shouldn’t appoint your daughter as your surrogate inside the State Department isn’t necessarily that she lacks the relevant experience. It is that your daughter is very likely to give you an inflated sense of your own genius, and that relying for strategic advice on a familial clique is likely to drive you into a blind corner of actions that only look defensible to people who are related to you."

Liz Cheney and her Dick father have the perfect situation. A following that never needs them to be correct and TV outlets for them to spread their falsehoods.

Imagine is Obama's kids were older and they had jobs at the State department. Would any Republican stop repeating how that nepotism was dangerous? Imagine the same for Chelsea Clinton.

Morning Joe Rips Limbaugh: ‘Deplorable,’ ‘insensitive,’ ‘mean-spirited.’

Radical cleric Rush Limbaugh is a known commodity. He rewards his limited-intellect, white, aging followers with daily nuggets of hate and small-minded politics. Rush, and conservatives in general, have no interest in solving problems, they just want power.

Just look how Rush sees the earthquake in Haiti with 100,000+ feared dead, it's not about ending the suffering, it's about power:

This will play right into Obama’s hands — humanitarian, compassionate. They’ll use this to burnish their, shall we say, credibility with the black community — the both the light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in this country. It’s made to order for them,"

The Right have decided who is entitled to the good life, and Rush and Co believe anything that takes away from white entitlement is wrong. No need for objectivity or details. Every situation gets the same treatment: poor people deserve what they get, minorities get too much.

Even faux human Joe Scarborough gets it: “The insensitivity is stunning, the words are deplorable. … [It's] indefensible.”

The sad thing is you can say this about Rush on any given day. He fans lap it up.

Haitian Ambassador Raymond Joseph Responds To Robertson

Instead of making up devil stories like Pat Robertson, Raymond Joseph uses actual history. He argued that the Haitian slave revolt allowed the United States to make the Louisiana Purchase for just $15 million, and that it allowed Simon Bolivar to "deliver Gran Colombia and the rest of South America."

"What pact the Haitians made with the devil has helped the United States become what it is".

America slaughtered millions of indigenous men, women and children. America had slavery for 200+ years. America has exploited every immigrant group from Europe to Asia to Latin America/Mexico. America imposes its capitalism on every developing nation to steal its resources and institute cheap labor.

We don't need to make a pact with the devil, we are the devil. I love my country, but by no means do I mask what we did to get where we are.

Pat Robertson Cites Haiti’s "Pact To The Devil’

Pat Robertson on his 700 Club:

ROBERTSON: [S]omething happened a long time ago in Haiti and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French. Napoleon the Third and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, “We will serve you if you get us free from the prince.” True story. And so the devil said, “OK, it’s a deal.” They kicked the French out, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free.

True story? You have to a heartless, idiot, charlatan, oh wait, he is.

Only an inhuman, non-Christian, in the light of mass destruction in a civilian population in a poor country, would think of some made up story from 200 years ago to rationalize this suffering to himself and his followers.

Talk about false prophets. Complete scum.

I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” — Mahatma Gandhi

RNC Hip Hopper Michael Steele Denies Black Dialect

Remember the "whitest-woman-in-the-room" Michele Bachmann's "You da man" intro a while back?
"I'm glad to know [Michael] Steele doesn't believe there is any kind of black dialect. I guess that's why he titled his blog 'What up?' told the Today Show in no uncertain terms 'brotha's still here' and said the Republican Party had to use hip-hop to reach black voters." -- Joan Walsh
Republican double standard? Hypocritical to a tee? Steele is the perfect clueless, fact-free, daily opinion changing Republican. Good thing he runs the RNC.

Barack Obama Locked In Dirty War With The Right

Great perspective by Andrew Sullivan on the Republicans' opposition to President Obama.
"Look. There is a real and vital role for political opposition, and a robust, healthy, even vicious critique of Obama’s policies and a clear alternative to them is not just legitimate but essential for a democracy to work. But these statements from key players at the very top of the Republican party do not reflect this. They reflect a partisanship that seeks to impugn the core motives of the president, implying that he is, in fact, something alien and destructive to America, and must be opposed in everything he does, whatever it is, because his success would mean the end of America itself. It is not a declaration of opposition; it’s a declaration of war."
John McCain has said, “President Obama is leading an extreme, left-wing crusade to bankrupt America.” Notice the use of crusade? Of course, because "Obama is a Muslim" is the code for the conservatives. Wrapping patriotism with their politics, then dipping it in religion and finishing it off with pride. The absolute worst combination, yet paraded about like they discovered the moral and empathetic key to life. True evil.

The clenched fist, all-or-nothing Culture Wars of the Republicans makes actual governing not their first priority. The Party of No is great at coming up with scenarios that will never happen, then use them as debatable facts. They believe their own bullshit.

When Dick Cheney is still your spokesperson and major detractor of the Obama Administration you know partisanship was never a consideration.
