The Hard Right: Doubling Down On Failure
"This is Obama’s old promise — no red states or blue states, only red, white, and blue states. An economic cold war to wave the flag and declare unity of purpose. Maybe.
The hard right won’t buy it — when Democrats say investment they hear spending. Of course, they are not really interesting in cutting deficits per se. It is for them a means to an end, and the end is making the nation and the world fully conservative, eliminating social responsibility in favor of personal responsibility alone, eliminating empathy, increasing militarism, establishing an unregulated purely laissez-faire free market, and maintaining a dominance hierarchy of western over nonwestern culture, Christian over non-Christian, white over non-white, straight over gay, male over female.
The hard right talks jobs, spending and the deficit, but their economics is based on the culture war. That’s why the culture war is back. Legislation to end any support for abortion, defund NEA, NEH, and NPR, end public education."
George Lakoff (via azspot)
The Hard Right always amazes me how consider themselves Americans, yet want to end all successful American ideals. Social Security is an American invention. They want to end it. The best idea we have had as a Nation, one that works better than anything else for over 80 years, they want to destroy. The paradox is truly upsetting.
Redefining Rape: Is This Really A Priority?
"With this legislation, which was introduced last week by Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), Republicans propose that the rape exemption be limited to “forcible rape."The House GOP’s Plan to Redefine Rape | Mother Jones
All rape is fucking forcible, you assholes. I hate you all, Republicans. Seriously. Every last one of you. I don’t think I will ever feel safe in this country as a woman, and I am terrified for my daughter’s future.

So, if you were drugged then date-raped, or raped by a family member taking advantage of your youth and vulnerability, no abortion for you!
(via jonathan-cunningham)
Republicans are are about “limited Government”, which has nothing to do with the size, but rather, really means, they want to “limit” your rights by way of the “Government”.
All the "jobs first" rhetoric was complete GOP bullshit.
RomneyCare Success Paves Way For Reform
Has RomneyCare’s success laid the path for ObamaCare?
Under RomneyCare 96% of working age adults have health insurance in the Massachusetts today, much higher than the national average. An Urban Institute study finds that 72% of state residents are happy with the effort with. Thom Hartmann talks about ObamaCare and The State of the Union with Jeff Santos, host of the Jeff Santos Show and Sam Seder, The Sam Seder Show.

I would never use Obamacare, as I think it’s GOP-speak to confuse and scare their rubes about health insurance reform as a Government takeover of the entire medical industry, but now, I think it’s going to backfire on the GOP/Tea Klanners, as it will be associated with success.

Bush White House Broke Elections Law, Report Says
WASHINGTON — The Bush White House, particularly before the 2006 midterm elections, routinely violated a federal law that prohibits use of federal tax dollars to pay for political activities by creating a “political boiler room” that coordinated Republican campaign activities nationwide, a report issued Monday by an independent federal agency concludes.
The report, based on about 100,000 pages of documents and interviews with 80 Bush administration officials in an investigation of more than three years, documented how these political activities accelerated before the 2006 midterm elections.
And what was the result? Massive losses. Well done, Bush. Break the laws and still lose.
Rand Was A Fraud
Rand was a fraud, her acolytes are dupes who lack the character to look critically at her work to discover that they follow the philosophy of a sociopath who lauded a child murderer.
“Practice what you preach” is a rare conservative characteristic.

Win The Future
The early returns are in, and it's a landslide.Snap polls (surveys with a small sample size taken immediately after a speech or event) almost always show a positive reaction to the State of the Union address. The reason is simple: if the President of the United States can't make a persuasive argument -- on the grandest platform in the world, with an hour of uninterrupted time -- he's doing something very wrong.
So it was no surprise that the post-State of the Union snap polls released last night and this morning showed a win for President Obama. What was surprising - more like jaw-dropping - was the lopsided degree of the President's win.
The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey gave Obama's speech an 84% positive response, while CBS' online poll pegged the positive response at 91%. Perhaps most encouraging for the White House, a survey of swing voters in Colorado by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner found a jump in the President's approval rating from 30% pre-speech to 56% post-speech.
These are blowout numbers.
Simply put, Americans are ready to like their president again. The pendulum is swinging back in his favor.
Bankers In Davos Make Case For Being Complete Idiots
"For example, the bankers argued that the so-called Basel III rules might encourage banks to load up on sovereign bonds, even though recent experience has shown that government debt is more risky than it used to be. Ultimately the overall economy will suffer, they said."Bankers say that new rules will allow them to make old mistakes, despite having the experience. Genius.
Why not run your banks with proven risk analysis and competent management?

55% And Rising
The latest CNN national poll shows President Obama’s approval rating at 55%, its highest point since November 2009. #change #hope
The Elected Under The Control Of Unelected Media
The Right love their unelected think tanks, just as much as their AM radio cretins, to develop policy an elected person would never write because they’d get voted out.

50% Approval And Rising
"And while we’re on the subject of why not a single Republican has announced a presidential candidacy yet … isn’t the answer obvious? It’s because they all know Barack Obama is as good as a shoo-in in 2012. Unless something cataclysmic happens, the only reason for any Republican to run is either as a vanity candidate or to get practice for 2016."Kevin Drum
Today is the four-year anniversary of Barack Obama announcing his run for President.

You're Thinking Of Jesus
If Jesus ever lived.
Much easier for the haters to love a metaphor from the Bronze Age than to actually live by the teachings associated with “him”.
Sitting Supreme Court Justice's Income Tax Evasion
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas failed to report his wife's income from a conservative think tank on financial disclosure forms for at least five years, the watchdog group Common Cause said Friday.
Between 2003 and 2007, Virginia Thomas, a longtime conservative activist, earned $686,589 from the Heritage Foundation, according to a Common Cause review of the foundation's IRS records. Thomas failed to note the income in his Supreme Court financial disclosure forms for those years, instead checking a box labeled "none" where "spousal noninvestment income" would be disclosed.
Virginia Thomas also has been active in the group Liberty Central, an organization she founded to restore the "founding principles" of limited government and individual liberty.
In his 2009 disclosure, Justice Thomas also reported spousal income as "none." Common Cause contends that Liberty Central paid Virginia Thomas an unknown salary that year.
Failed to report once, maybe it's a mistake. Failing for five years is deliberate income tax evasion.
Large, unidentified contributions paid to the wife of a Supreme Court justice, then not documented. Imagine if this happened to a liberal judge?
