On the "Ground Zero Mosque"

On the “Ground Zero Mosque”

We’ve already lost the argument when we hem and haw and equivocate, saying it’s not next to but rather two blocks from Ground Zero, or when we say it’s not really a mosque but a community center. Those statements may be factually true, but the crux of the argument is: If we truly are a society that respects freedom of religion, if we truly believe it when we say, “Islam did not attack us on 9/11. Terrorists attacked us on 9/11,” then people should be able to build a mosque wherever they damn well please, even right on top of Ground Zero.

The Muslim faith is not an affront to America or New York or 9/11 victims and their families. Terrorism is.

End.Of.Story.
